One of Meadowbrook's programs, workers' compensation for carnival workers was experiencing poor loss results. The Program Manager and Branch Manager were determined to turn this situation around.
Because Meadowbrook takes an integrated approach to Program Management, we asked our Loss Control Consultant to review the losses and isolate the most prevalent causes for workers falling while assembling rides and getting injured at work. Next, we approached our Agency Partner to decide on how best to address the problem with the program members.
We found that our insured participated in an association convention where new equipment and other new industry developments are showcased. Meadowbrook's Loss Control Consultant and Program Manager suggested we provide an educational opportunity at the next convention, specifically targeting "Fall Protection". A third-party expert demonstrated proper fall protection and avoidance techniques.
The Fall Protection seminar and demonstration took place at the next national association convention. Fall Protection equipment and training on safer assembly methods were presented. Attendance at the seminar was excellent and we received very good reviews from everyone that attended.
The following year, the program's loss experience improved dramatically with almost no injuries from falls. A great turn around!
